The Makers Community — San Francisco

We are
the Makers.

The private studio where San Francisco’s makers, builders, dreamers, and doers get their hair done.

San Francisco has a way of collecting people. Artists, engineers, musicians, designers, builders, dreamers. People who came here from all around the world to make something more of their lives. This is who Makers Make Parlor was made for.

The thread that ties every client together is not a hair type or a zip code. It is that we are all here to make something. Apps and albums, films and families, businesses and babies and art and everything in between.

What clients say

The people are talking.

“Rachel is the best — from her beaming smile as she welcomes you in to the salon, to her ability to listen, and really hear what I’m saying, to the splendid job she does with my crazed curly gray hair.”

“Rachel is the best. I’m a guy with medium to longer hair, and she was able to cut it exactly how I wanted it, if not better. Highly recommend her for anyone, especially guys that wanna try a salon instead of a barber.”

“She has given me fun colors, balayage, ombré, blowouts for special events, and haircuts — always coming out better than I could imagine.”

Rachel working at Makers Make Parlor

About Rachel

Behind the chair since 2005. Still curious about hair.

Rachel has been a stylist for 21 years, but her interest in hair started much earlier. With trying to figure out her own. That curiosity never left. It became the foundation of everything she does at Makers.

Every appointment begins with a real conversation. Not just about your hair, but about your lifestyle, your habits, and how you want to feel. The goal has never been to impose a look. It is to translate your vision into something refined, wearable, and uniquely yours.

“My mission is to make hair feel less confusing and to help people feel more at home in their own hair.”

— Rachel, Owner

Life Beyond the Chair

Off the grid,
on the bay.

Home is Brooks Island in the San Francisco Bay, a mile across open water in a 10-foot inflatable boat. Tides and weather are real variables in Rachel’s day — which is why the schedule matters, and why arriving on time means everything.

Honey waiting at the door at Makers Make Parlor

Meet the mascot

Dog Hair
Don’t Care.

Honey is an 85-pound pit bull with the energy of a potato and the emotional availability of a therapy dog. Her white couch lives right next to the hood dryer, which means when you sit down for your processing time, she is already there. Nobody planned this. It is just how it worked out and she has never once complained.

She snores, accepts treats from anyone willing to offer them, and will be at the door waiting for you when you arrive. A few of her hairs may find their way onto your things during your visit. That is just part of her charm.

One white hair on your black pants on the way out is her signature. Consider it a compliment.

Allergies or prefer a pup-free visit? Just say so when you book. She stays home. No questions asked.
